Technological glitch - Oh yay!

I finished my BJP and took pictures on the 31st. Go me! When I went to peek at them however, they didn't show up in the pics on the camera. Huh? Recheck the camera itself, they are there. Now, I'm not totally inept with technology. It tends to give me a hard time, sure. Never have I come up against this though. Turns out that somewhere along the line, the photo counter in the camera was reset. Argh!! lol This means I have to either change the names of all the photos on my computer (blech!) or, steal the hubsters computer and work out a new system for naming the pics. Guess which one I am picking? hehe Pics soon and an explanation for my idea that is sort of how I was thinking originally but, of course, changed. Very good start for sure!

In other news, living in Alaska means living with cold, snow and ice. It also means that when it snows in other parts of the country that do not get snow usually, I get blamed!! Haha :) Sending out warm wishes to all who are being affected by inclimate weather. I'm having a cup of hot cocoa for you all and putting an extra log on the fire!!

No pictures yet, a question tho ...

Does anyone know how to make a button to link to the BJP Facebook page? I realized I didn't know how or see one. Just curious. I've made it a link on my blog and it's looks ... like a link, haha!

I'm behind on beading. Figures! The idea for the month is coming and I have been taking some notes. Should get some time tomorrow and the rest of this week. Might even make it before the end of the month!! For now, it's off to do some straightening and baking - a cake for my DH's bday!! Happy birthday Sweetheart!!

In the beginning ...

I think I have finally worked out a size. Now that the holiday visitors have all parted and the house is just about back to normal, it's time to really get moving. I want to create a wall hanging. Each month will be a smallish rectangle. About 1.5 X 2 should end with a very nice piece. (subject to change, of course!) I have also decided that I am going to tuck some things in the back of my mind that I want to work out on a personal level to help with the healing. We can all use some of that, right? :) I'll be working some thin denim this time around. If I can remember where I stashed the material. haha! I have a few other things I need to get done on the beading front as well. Best get crackin'!!

To all who have shown pics on your blogs, thank you! I am inspired! To those who might be still deciding, go for it! Beading is one of the most forgiving mediums for the creative outlet. You might even surprise yourself - I know I do all the time.

I will be posting BJP pics with the finished pieces with some in progress shots. Other work will show up from time to time. Especially cuffs. Beaded cuffs are something I am really really into right now. A few other items as well, I'm sure. (And a recent curiosity for bead crochet might make an appearance as well - it just looks so wonderful!)

Keep your needles threaded and have fun!

Beading, The Project and other things

Welcome to Beading with Mittens and thank you for stopping in. I live in the interior of Alaska with my DH in a small cabin on his family property, with our 2 dogs (aka as fur-children). Beading has become a part of my way of life here. With long winters and sub-zero temperatures, finding something to do that allows for sitting close to the wood stove is a requirement. I also happen to have a magpie mentality and all those shiny beads just send me over the edge!! Don't be surprised to see other things besides beading pop up in the blog, by the way. We all know how life happens and I enjoy life as well!

I've been beading for a few years now. What I enjoy the most is a toss up between the thrill of creating something from smaller bits and the meditation-like feel that comes while working on a project. I have followed all of Robin Atkins BJP's and participated once previously. *** I am looking forward to wearing holes in my mittens every month for the next year, beading up wonderful somethings. As soon as I figure out all of the specifications of what my project will be this year. Do I want to use a theme? What do I want to use for backing? Oh my, I should post this entry and start sorting bead-bits so I can make a decision! There are only 34 days until the official beginning! :)

Thanks for reading! :)

* (Due to a 'canine incident', I was unable to take photo's of all of the pieces. The dogs and I are finally on speaking terms again. They just gets a little nervous around beading thread ... *snicker*)
